About The Position

The Research Support Specialist will work in the Gobler Laboratory under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Christopher Gobler. Responsibilities will include: Assist with data analysis and statistical analysis. Assist with data input, organization, and management. Assist with laboratory method development and generation of SOPs. Assist with creation of data figures and report and manuscript writing. Assist with general laboratory and equipment maintenance and inventory. Other duties as assigned. Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. The starting salary range (or hiring range) to be offered for this position is noted below, it represents SBU’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Marine research experience in the field and/or laboratory.
  • Experience with laboratory analyses associated with plankton and/or nutrients.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Marine Biology or related field.
  • Experience in phytoplankton, water quality monitoring and related topics.
  • Experience with cyanobacteria and harmful algal bloom.
  • Experience with working with high throughput sequencing data sets.
  • Experience synthesizing large data sets into figures and reports.
  • Experience with statistical analyses.
  • Experience with scientific literature of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms.
