About the position

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on Pre-Award administration at RBG Kew working on a portfolio of research and knowledge exchange funding bids and contract research. We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to provide excellent, customer-focussed pre-award research support managing the lifecycle from preparation through to submission of high-quality funding proposals. With substantial experience of working in a research support and/or finance role, you will be an excellent and confident communicator with strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to work calmly and effectively at pace, conveying enthusiasm and energy around project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on Pre-Award administration for research and knowledge exchange funding bids.
  • Manage the lifecycle from preparation through to submission of funding proposals.
  • Provide horizon scanning, funder intelligence, and specialist funding advice to researchers.
  • Ensure operational excellence and consistency of practice in research bids.
  • Implement due diligence, ethical review, and risk assessments.
  • Develop pre-award budgets in line with fEC and Trac methodologies.
  • Participate in professional networks and disseminate information to staff.
  • Contribute to service quality, research excellence, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven track record in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and use initiative.

  • Experience in providing constructive feedback to research applicants.
  • Familiarity with funder requirements and bid writing processes.
