The Cognition, Auditory Neuroscience, And Language (CANAL) lab in the Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University is seeking a Research Support Assistant to provide critical support and management for research studies on the cognitive and neural mechanisms through which listeners comprehend spoken language. This is a two-year full-time position, with a one-year extension possible. We envision a start date of July 1, but this is flexible from June 1 – September 1. They will support the research by assisting with the design and development of new experimental protocols, collecting data using behavioral, eye tracking, fMRI and other techniques. Projects focus on a range of topics including how listeners adapt to the statistical regularities in the language input, how knowledge of what someone might say in some context influences how listeners perceive speech, and how listeners adapt to different accents. This position requires strong organizational skills as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Successful candidates will: Have excellent interpersonal, communication, organization and time management skills. Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills and data management ability Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to learn new technical skills quickly Fluency in English Ability to mentor undergraduate students and work collaboratively in a team.
