About The Position

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Assistant to join their team. US News & World Report consistently ranks the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine among the top ten programs in the country. We are among the nation’s leading recipients of research and training funding from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, including the TBI and Burn Model Systems grants. We have a long history of innovative clinical and research programs, strong research infrastructure, active mentoring of junior faculty and a rich network of potential clinical and research collaborators among faculty within and outside our department. The department offers four graduate degree programs, including master's degrees in Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics & Orthotics, as well as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science. The UW Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (TBIMS), in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, has an excellent opportunity for a full time Research Study Assistant (RSA). Our dynamic interdisciplinary clinical research team includes experts in the field of brain injury and offers an exceptional learning experience. This position involves direct contact with patients providing informed consent, data collection, data entry, and interacting with clinical staff to coordinate research activities with patient care as well as connecting with them over years, post-injury. Requirements

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience.

Responsibilities

assist in recruiting and screening patients
obtaining informed consent
data collection (administering self-report questionnaires, neuropsychological testing and medical record abstraction)
data entry
data quality checks
providing backup support for the Late Effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (LETBI) study which involves scheduling follow up appointments within parameters of the MRI Lab availability and obtaining informed consent (including brain donation) as well as screening and recruiting Veterans for entry into the LETBI study
assist in identification and recruitment of potential research participants, sending out recruitment materials and follow-up questionnaires as needed (via email or mail)
contacting potential participants over the phone using IRB approved protocols for those that were not enrolled while in the hospital
maintain the system used to administer and collect instruments, including updating and entering data into the National Database and Statistical Center (NDSC)
Conduct participant interviews according to strict study protocol
Administer standardized neuropsychological tests with participants to measure attention, concentration, learning, memory and higher-level thinking skills
maintaining an accurate tracking system for completed baseline and any follow up visits
maintain confidentiality of subject records and update contact information and other contacts in order to ensure good follow up rates
participate in research meetings and provide, in a clear and concise manner, the activities of the project to managers and principal investigators
assist in various dissemination projects throughout the year as needed (newsletters, social media posts, presentations)
