About The Position

The Research Staff Scientist position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) focuses on applying statistics and advanced data analysis tools to address environmental and ecological challenges. Requirements

• MS degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in data analysis and database management.
• Programming skills in Python/R.

• Experience with data management workflows related to the TVA Kingston Fossil Plant coal ash spill.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process new TVA data post-2018 and conduct data completeness and consistency checks.
• Build a master sample table and construct data dictionaries and lookup tables for data ingestion.
• Write and test code for data ingestion and transformation processes.
• Integrate new data with historical datasets, focusing on various ecological metrics.
• Provide support for projects across the Environmental Sciences Division in data science, coding, statistical analysis, and data management.
• Align behaviors and priorities with ORNL's core values and promote a respectful workplace.
