About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Assay Services Unit of the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC). Assay Services is one of four research service units at the WNPRC, and focuses on the development, validation, and analysis of biological samples for a wide variety of hormones, neurotransmitters, and biomakers for primate (nonhuman and human) research. The Assay Services Unit seeks a highly motivated individual to participate in the high throughput analyses of human and nonhuman primate hormonal samples. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, mature work habits, a desire to learn, and the ability to work independently in a team environment. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, setting up solvent extractions and running biological samples for LC-MS/ MS. Additional duties will include statistical analyses, computer record-keeping, general lab maintenance, and the use of online databases, graphic programs, and Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Requirements

  • Basic laboratory skills, particularly pipetting and working with organic solvents, needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, mature work habits, a desire to learn, and the ability to work independently in a team environment are expected
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • Although previous non-classroom laboratory experience is preferred, recent graduates with laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in measuring analytes by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is highly desirable.
  • Preferred areas of specialization may include biomedical fields, chemistry, biochemistry, neuroscience, or endocrinology.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
