A full-time position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Joanna Goldberg in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University. This laboratory is located in the O. Wayne Rollins Research Center at Emory University in Atlanta, GA on the same floor as the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This new position will help advance our group’s research efforts to identify and test novel therapeutics against bacterial pathogens. Our laboratory studies bacterial pathogenesis with a particular focus on infections in people living with the inherited disease cystic fibrosis (CF). The researcher will work on projects along with our colleagues at Georgia Tech, at the University of Queensland, and at the University of Texas, Southwestern. Experiments involve bioinformatics, state of the art bacterial genetics/genomics, cell culture, and mouse models of infection. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for these assays models will be used. The long-term goal of this work is to devise rational methods to disrupt virulence and promote clearance of infecting bacteria, and thereby improve the lives of those living with CF. The researcher will perform experiments, initially designed by the PIs and colleagues, but then independently with oversight by the PI. The position requires keeping careful detailed notebooks including experimental procedures and accurate presentation of results and analysis of data. The ability to review the literature for related research developments and techniques is strongly encouraged as well as a willingness to learn and implement new skills. Weekly meeting will be held with the PI and monthly meetings with collaborators. Other responsibilities include training others on the SOPs.
