The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Emory University, School of Medicine, is looking for a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Specialist working in the laboratory of Dr. M. Ammar Zafar, focusing on bacterial pathogenesis. The research in the laboratory is looking to understand how pathogenic bacteria colonize the host mucosal surfaces, cause disease or transmit to another host. The laboratory looks at the host and bacterial factors contributing to a pathogen's dissemination. The work will include genetic manipulation of pathogenic bacteria, high throughput sequencing approaches, working with DNA, RNA, and proteins, animal studies using mice, and cell culture work. The research specialist will be trained by and work under the direct supervision of the principal investigator and will progress to work independently and eventually train new incoming lab members.
