This position will carry out technical model development and application of the CASCADE model to simulate the future landscape and habitat evolution of the Masonboro Island Reserve. Working within the UNC -CH Coastal Environmental Change Lab, the Research Specialist will add marsh dynamics to CASCADE and evaluate how different management actions (e.g., sand placement, jetty bypassing) and environmental changes (e.g., sea-level rise, increased storminess) impact the long-term, decadal-scale resilience of the island-marsh system. The primary goal of this work is to provide natural resource managers with tools to understand how short-term decisions might affect future island function or potentially hasten island loss.
