About The Position

The UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Extension Northwest Crops & Soils Program is seeking a Research Specialist with expertise in precision agriculture. This role involves coordinating and administering agricultural research programs, on-farm trials, and grant-related initiatives, while providing specialized technical support to enhance precision agriculture practices within the agricultural community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Three years of experience in dairy agriculture, on-farm experience, academic research in agriculture, or direct work with farmers.
• Knowledge of precision agriculture, sustainable agriculture, and organic and commercial farm systems.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to engage with researchers, farmers, and the public.
• Strong interpersonal skills and public speaking ability.
• Technical and creative writing skills, along with proficiency in computers and electronic technologies.
• Ability to travel locally and regionally.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and administer programs, projects, and activities related to agricultural research and precision agriculture.
• Conduct integrated research and provide technical support for precision agriculture initiatives.
• Assist in data collection, storage, and network building for a new data clearinghouse focused on on-farm precision agricultural trials.
• Provide technical service and recommendations to farmers for installing and calibrating precision equipment.
• Develop educational materials on precision agricultural practices for distribution through various digital platforms.
• Market precision agriculture programs to producers and develop methods to communicate research results effectively.
