About The Position

The University of Pennsylvania's lab is seeking a full-time Research Specialist to begin in Summer 2026. The lab focuses on investigating the neurobiological mechanisms underlying addiction-like behaviors using animal models of substance use disorders. A key aspect of the work involves translational studies aimed at identifying and developing new therapeutic approaches for substance use disorders. While prior experience with rodents, particularly in drug self-administration paradigms in rats, is preferred, the position is also ideal for post-baccalaureate individuals seeking hands-on research experience in behavioral neuroscience before pursuing graduate or medical school. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with rodents
  • Experience with animal models of addiction, stereotaxic brain surgery, and/or behavioral pharmacology
  • Familiarity with cellular and molecular techniques including RT-PCT, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope and Western blotting

Responsibilities

  • Rodent drug self-administration experiments
  • In vivo fiber photometry
  • Immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in situ hybridization, and fluorescent microscopy
  • maintaining lab organization
  • Cell type- and circuit-specific studies of the brain
  • Rodent husbandry and colony maintenance
  • Data analysis and presentation
  • Lab management (ordering lab supplies, etc)
