Research Specialist - II - NRCS
About The Position
This position is responsible for leading field experiments to maintain advanced research testbeds on the PVAMU Farm; assist extension assistant and county agent in helping farmers with relevant practices; conduct research on spatial hydrology, agricultural water management, carbon sequestration, and using hydrologic/climatic/crop/carbon models in combination; assist the team with downloading data, modeling, and identifying environmental stressors; contribute to writing research reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals and present results at scientific meetings; participate in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program; Work in collaboration with other researchers; assist undergraduate and graduate students and extension personnel; Support achieving the university’s commitment to teaching, research, and service excellence. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding. The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Six years of related experience in earth science, hydrology, soil science, geography, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing remote sensing, carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong quantitative and programming experiences in R, Python, and others.
- Considerable experience in spatial data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design, and project implementations at different scales (field and watershed).
- Strong numerical modeling and analytical and statistical skills.
- Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.

- Master’s degree or Ph.D. degree

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, educators, and staff.
- Ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and Geographical Information System (GIS) software.
- Knowledge and understanding of Remote Sensing Tools and data.
- Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of the Land Grant University System.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop field experiments under the guidance of the project lead.
- Conduct field experiments and maintain research testbed on PVAMU research farm.
- Install and maintain field equipment and sensors.
- Collect, analyze, and store in situ measurements.
- Develop and perform assessments to identify problematic data, including gap filling, formulate and apply corrections.
- Identify and collect data available in the public domain for this project.
- Prepare datasets to share with other investigators or collaborators.
- Supervise and help undergraduate and graduate students.
- Assist faculty with field demonstrations for students and/or stakeholders, including farmers.
- Participates in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program; and performs other duties as necessary.
