About The Position

The Krienen lab in the Princeton Neuroscience Institute (krienenlab.org) is seeking a bright and motivated full-time technician. Research in the lab focuses on understanding genetic influences that shape the development and evolution of the mammalian brain. Research Specialist responsibilities include using technologies such as single cell genomics to characterize mammalian autism models, as well as using molecular tools to develop a high-throughput method to study local mRNA components of synapses. The individual will participate in research projects and work closely with other lab members and the PI. This position provides an excellent opportunity to further develop research skills in neurobiology, molecular biology and genomics-based technology development. This is a one-year term position (with the possibility of renewal); preference is given to candidates who can commit to 2 years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, computational biology, or a related field is required.
  • Must have wet lab research experience, and experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, molecular cloning, sequencing).
  • Must be highly organized and have exceptional note-taking and communication skills (written and oral)

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidates will be able to work with other lab members on collaborative projects and assist with other lab duties as needed.
  • They will enjoy learning and conducting wet lab experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Standardize molecular biology workflows and test new protocols
  • Contribute to experimental workflows of high-throughput sequencing.
  • Conduct flow cytometry and molecular biology experiments (DNA and RNA analysis) on brain tissue dissections.
  • Perform histological analysis of brain tissue with confocal microscopy.
  • Other lab duties as assigned
