About The Position

The research specialist I will work under general supervision by the PI and Lab manager and will be part of a basic science research laboratory that focuses on Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Immune-oncology. The lab encompasses a variety of wet-lab and dry-lab techniques ranging from molecular biology to transcriptomic data analysis. The position requires motivated, well-organized individuals with excellent communication skills. The candidate is expected to undertake a variety of responsibilities in the lab including organization, database management and development, maintenance of lab consumables, basic animal colony husbandry and protocol development/implementation. The candidate is also expected to maintain an independent, self-driven research project that is supervised and supported by the PI and Lab manager. The candidate is expected to have a collaborative mindset where working together with the team is critical.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other life or health sciences
  • Previous laboratory experience is considered helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic lab maintenance responsibilities including glassware washing, solution making, inventory and laboratory organization.
  • Independently perform basic histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding and sectioning.
  • Work closely with the lab manager and perform mouse husbandry on 2 different transgenic mouse lines. This includes the maintenance and inventory of supplies (e.g., syringes, needles, sutures, etc.), supplements, diets and reagents to be administered.
  • Independently perform basic molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, Polymerase chain reaction, agarose gel electrophoresis and aseptic cell culture.
  • Maintain accurate records of animals, and experimental procedures. Proficiency at programs including google-docs, excel, and word.
