About The Position

The Research Specialist I assists investigators with the planning and completion of specific phases of research projects. This position provides research expertise and audits protocols for field and/or lab work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research.

Nice To Haves

  • A clinical degree (e.g. MD or RN) for basic health knowledge regarding public health risk factors for health and illness and interventions for ameliorating major public health problems related to chronic diseases and/or substance abuse.
  • A research Master’s Degree in related data analytical field (e.g. public health, biostatistics)
  • Three years or more related professional experience in clinical or public health research.
  • Experience conducting human-subjects research.
  • Experience with community-engaged research and evaluation projects.
  • Experience developing and utilizing online survey tools and software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively and help maintain a fun and supportive team environment that is focused on advancing our work to effectively address health disparities for underserved populations.
  • Documented experience in manuscript preparation, submission, and acceptance in peer-reviewed journals
  • Database design for clinical research and cohort studies
  • Programming/coding proficiency in statistical software
  • Savvy importing/exporting data between various systems/platforms

Responsibilities

  • Assists investigators with the planning and direction of specific phases of research project.
  • Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reviews semi-complex data and metadata.
  • Provides research expertise.
  • Reviews, audits, and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
  • Performs analysis and tests.
  • Makes and records observations and scientific measurements.
  • Audits study protocols.
  • Drafts study interim and final reports
  • Utilizes summarized results in scientific and/or clientele-oriented publications.
  • Prepares and writes proposals to funding agencies
  • Trains undergraduate and/or graduate students and other staff involved in research.
  • Develops and maintains training materials for external users.
