About The Position

The Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics seeks applicants for a Research Specialist I position to manage the Nothobranchius furzeri (African turquoise killifish) colony across research laboratories at the Institute (Professors Claire Bedbrook and Ravi Nath). This position requires independence and strong organizational skills, as it will entail managing time and resources to successfully maintain the African killifish colony, a critical resource for research focused on vertebrate aging. This position will be essential to support cutting-edge research in these labs, which involves a wide array of tools ranging from molecular biology and genetics to genomics and state-of-the-art microscopy. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience. Salary will include the full benefits package. This is a full-time position. This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance. Review of applications will begin immediately. The position will start July 1st, 2026.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.
  • At least one year of lab research experience is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a meticulous daily laboratory notebook.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Computer experience to maintain breeding records and other documents preferred.
  • Ability to work in a pathogen-free environment using established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and husbandry of African killifish colony and aquatic housing system.
  • Maintain accurate & complete record of fish inventory morbidity/mortality reports, water parameters, feeding times, and breeding.
  • Set up breeding tanks, collect fish embryos, hatch developed embryos.
  • Perform complex lab procedures (tail clips & genotyping).
  • Coordination of time and resources across multiple research teams.
  • Participation in group meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
