About The Position

Research Specialist B is needed to carry out an array of basic laboratory techniques to study the role of microglia and the immune system in brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The work will involve cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, particularly in iPSC derived microglia and neurons. This work will also entail lab management including ordering, keeping lab inventory and general lab organization. More information can be found at www.haneylab.org. Tasks will include supplies and equipment ordering, keeping inventory of supplies, human and mouse cell culture, DNA/RNA purification, PCR, sequencing library preparation. Experience in cell culture and cell-based assays is desired. Additional responsibilities include detailed and organized record keeping, writing, presenting research results to the PI, and implementing laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience for Research Specialist B.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-4 years of experience for Research Specialist C.
  • Experience in cell culture and cell-based assays.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments or studies to support research projects.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Maintain research tools, equipment, or project resources.
  • Contribute to study design, documentation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with investigators and staff to ensure projects are carried out effectively and in compliance with established protocols.
  • Perform basic laboratory techniques related to microglia and the immune system.
  • Manage lab operations including ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Perform human and mouse cell culture, DNA/RNA purification, PCR, and sequencing library preparation.
  • Keep detailed and organized records of research activities.
  • Write and present research results to the Principal Investigator.
