About The Position

The Granato Lab in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology is seeking a Research Specialist A to conduct routine experiments and research activities to support zebrafish project objectives, working under close supervision. Contributes to data collection, experiments, or studies; prepares materials and maintains research tools or resources. Helps manage project documentation and processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of deliverables

Requirements

Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Responsibilities

Zebrafish stock maintenance, genotyping fish, crossing, and raising progeny.
Enter info into database, move fish from baby farm to large tank at 3 months. Clean tanks as necessary.
Cross fish, collect embryos for experimental analysis. Fix a subset during early embryogenesis for antibody or RNA in situ hybridization analysis. Examine others morphologically. Take photos.
Microinject eggs/embryos with morpholinos, RNA, or DNA. Perform other experiments as needed.
Collect embryos at particular stages, isolate mRNA to make cDNA, to clone gene transcripts or perform RT-PCR. Synthesize mRNA in vitro for injection or in situ hybridization. Help with lab jobs, as needed. Make CRISPR mutants.
Maintain lab notebook.
