The Research Software Architect at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center is responsible for leading the development of informatics pipelines and database solutions for large bioinformatics data sets, particularly those related to sequencing. This role involves creating software applications for processing and visualizing omics data, mentoring junior developers, and collaborating with project teams to ensure successful project execution.

  • Lead software/database development projects independently.
  • Gather system requirements and develop complex databases and applications.
  • Build information logical data models, including major entities, attributes, relationships, and software components.
  • Perform software/database development for specific projects independently.
  • Provide database administration and support, including system change management, monitoring, performance tuning, and backup and recovery.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and senior software developers for project initiation and rollout.
  • Maintain accurate records of software and database development, core usage, and time management.
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, informatics systems, health informatics, bioinformatics, or a comparable field.
  • At least 5 years in software development, database design, or administration, including 3 years in software engineering/architecture.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and scripting.
  • Strong programming skills in object-oriented programming, Java, C, C++, and XML.
  • Excellent SQL/database development and optimization background.
  • Experience with Oracle and MySQL databases, PL/SQL preferred.
  • Experience with REST APIs and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with mobile development.
  • Experience with cloud computing.
  • Experience working with biological data.
