About The Position

The Research Senior Technician in the Sehgal Memory Lab within the Department of Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences, provides advanced research support for studies focused on the neurobiological mechanisms of learning and memory. This position independently conducts laboratory research activities using established protocols and specialized equipment to record and manipulate neuronal activity in rodent models. The Research Senior Technician assists with the design and implementation of research studies, collects and analyzes experimental data, maintains a mouse colony, and ensures accurate documentation of research procedures and results. The position contributes to manuscript and presentation preparation, coordinates laboratory operations and meetings, oversees undergraduate research assistants, and maintains laboratory supplies and materials. This role operates with a high level of autonomy on routine research activities and applies established procedures and scientific methods to support broader research objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience as demonstrated by one of the following: No prior experience required with a Bachelor’s degree Two (2) years of relevant experience with an Associate’s degree Four (4) years of relevant experience with a High School diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting laboratory research, preferably in behavioral neuroscience, psychology, or related biological sciences.
  • Broad knowledge of laboratory research processes, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing research data using spreadsheet and statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, Prism, or similar tools).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, or animal colonies.
