About The Position

The Research Senior Technician will assist and support the scientific investigation to study cancer as directed by the Principal Investigator within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree
  • 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

  • Manage animal colonies in accordance with Dr. Cruz-Monserrate’s laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ULAR guidelines, and approved IACUC protocols.
  • Perform routine procedures on laboratory animals and assist with animal care in compliance with approved IACUC protocols, when applicable.
  • Conduct techniques that may include but not limited to: Mammalian cell culture and maintenance, DNA/RNA extraction and PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, ELISA, and other biochemical assays
  • Collect, sort, process, and analyze tissue, blood, or cell samples according to study protocols and SOPs for IRB-approved clinical trials, laboratory research studies, and other approved studies.
  • Independently perform assigned experiments using established molecular, cellular, and biochemical research protocols. Test, evaluate, troubleshoot, and assist with optimization of experimental procedures and protocols
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and assist with troubleshooting and protocol optimization.
  • Manage research laboratory space in accordance with Dr. Cruz-Monserrate’s laboratory SOPs, OSU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines, and other institutional requirements.
  • Record, consolidate, and maintain accurate experimental data in laboratory notebooks and electronic data systems in accordance with OSU research integrity, data management standards, and the Cruz-Monserrate laboratory SOP.
  • Assist with basic statistical analysis and preparation of data summaries.
  • Prepare figures, tables, and written summaries for inclusion in manuscripts, abstracts, posters, progress reports, and grant submissions.
  • Conduct literature searches and background research on assigned topics.
  • Oversee laboratory space management in accordance with laboratory SOPs, OSU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, and institutional requirements.
  • Set up, operate, maintain, and document use of laboratory equipment; coordinate routine maintenance, service, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Prepare reagents, buffers, media, and chemical solutions following established protocols.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory, track supplies, and initiate procurement requests through OSU purchasing systems.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of biological, chemical, and hazardous waste in compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Adhere to all institutional, state, federal, and OSU safety regulations, including biosafety, chemical hygiene, and animal research requirements.
  • Complete and maintain required training in laboratory safety, biosafety, chemical hygiene, and animal research.
  • Maintain documentation required for audits, safety inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • Report safety concerns, protocol deviations, or equipment malfunctions promptly to the Principal Investigator.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate trainees, and research staff.
  • Assist with training junior laboratory personnel and students in research methods, laboratory SOPs, and equipment operation.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings, journal clubs, and departmental research activities.
  • Communicate experimental progress, challenges, and results clearly and professionally with the Principal Investigator and lab members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of laboratory and research goals.
