About The Position

The Chief Research Security Officer (CRSO) at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Security Analyst to join the UVA Office of Research Security. This position will be assisting with the execution of various compliance programs, including research security, export controls and operational security. Duties will include assisting the CRSO in the implementation and execution of policies and methods relating to federal sponsored program security due diligence, conducting listserv triage, reviewing proposed international activities, recordkeeping, updating databases and files as needed, preparing ad hoc reports and presenting research security training. Due to the nature of the compliance programs this position supports, this position is only open to U.S. persons, essentially U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. This position is a restricted 2-year term appointment, with possibility of renewal.

Requirements

  • Open-Source Intelligence
  • Federal grant security requirements including compliance and reporting standards
  • Ability to prioritize and balance work demands.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, including documentation of outcomes or results.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in industrial security, intelligence or law enforcement; seven years preferred
  • Clearance: Active TS Clearance (or higher)
  • CDSE FSO Course Completion

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM)
  • Understanding and applying state or federal regulations.
  • Experience safeguarding proprietary or confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation and execution of policies and procedures supporting federal sponsored program due diligence review and reporting
  • Initial triage of incoming communications (e.g., review requests, general questions, and reports of potential non-compliance).
  • Update databases and files; prepare ad hoc reports; and perform periodic compliance reviews.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of communications and informational materials to the research community, as well as presenting research security training.
