About The Position

The Research Scientist will lead and conduct research focused on the potential of drug repurposing in oral and craniofacial tissue repair and regeneration. This includes investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying responses to metformin in dental stem cells and vascular endothelial cells to support osteogenic/angiogenic coupling in craniofacial bone regeneration.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in pharmacology, biological sciences, biomedical sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in cell culture, immunohistochemistry, gene and protein expression assays, osteogenic/angiogenesis assays, cellular imaging, bioinformatics and animal handling.
  • Expertise in advanced research techniques related to biguanides and organic cation transporters is required.
  • Proven track record of research excellence, evidenced by a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Selected candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and performing advanced experiments, analyzing data, and developing innovative techniques for studying the role of metformin and organic cation transporters in the context of stem cell-based craniofacial bone regeneration.
  • Designing and implementing pre-clinical experimental models to investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of locally delivered metformin in stem cell-based craniofacial bone regeneration.
  • Publishing research findings in high-impact scientific journals, presenting results at national and international conferences, and contributing actively to the scientific community.
  • Developing, submitting grant proposals and securing external funding for research projects.
  • Setting research priorities, mentoring students and junior researchers, and planning research programs within the division.

Benefits

  • Eligible Ohio State employees receive comprehensive benefits packages, including medical, dental and vision insurance, tuition assistance for employees and their dependents, and state or alternative retirement options with competitive employer contributions.
