About The Position

Under general supervision of the Department of Medicine at Brown University, and in accordance with established policies and procedures at The Miriam Hospital, the person will be responsible for conducting behavioral health research with underserved populations. In addition, the person will be responsible for performing clinical and programmatic work at the discretion of their supervisor. The person will have an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Brown University. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: The person will work with established staff at The Miriam Hospital and Brown University to develop and conduct behavioral health research with underserved populations. The person will be expected to perform clinical treatment as needed to address substance use and mental health disorders. Submission of NIH grants in the first year will be expected with the support and guidance of established faculty at Brown University and The Miriam Hospital. The Miriam Hospital is home to the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and has substantial infrastructure to support research related activities. Significant resources at Brown University through the Department of Medicine and School of Public Health also provide support in the development and implementation of research studies.The incumbent possesses skills with outstanding prospects for research, scholarly leadership, and teaching excellence who will complement the existing strengths of the Department. The incumbent does NOT need to have current grant funding but should have some grant writing experience and be willing to pursue externally-funded research grants.The incumbent will be expected to actively participate in relevant activities of the Division of Infectious Diseases, the Department of Medicine, and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.The incumbent will have no responsibility to teach classes. However, other activities may include teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students including medical students.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, or an equivalent degree, and have relevant postdoctoral training with experience in substance use and mental health treatment.
  • A demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, and interest in applying for extramural research funding, especially from the NIH, is also required.
  • Successful candidates will be visionary, collegial, and highly motivated experts in their field.
  • At least one-year relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of participation in multidisciplinary research teams, including between epidemiology, public health, clinical, and translational disciplines is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to graduate and medical education.
