The Earth Systems Research Center, University of New Hampshire (UNH), has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist I. The successful candidate will work with a global ecologist (Dr. Jingfeng Xiao, UNH). The Research Scientist will be employed via UNH and work physically at the university. This position is funded by NASA and NSF and can be renewed annually depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Duties/Responsibilities (90%) This successful candidate will combine satellite observations, in-situ measurements, machine learning, statistical techniques, and modeling approaches to better understand terrestrial carbon and water cycles and their responses to global change. This successful candidate will also lead preparation of journal articles and conference presentations. (5%) The successful candidate will participate in proposal writing and grant applications. (5%) The successful candidate will also help supervise high school interns, graduate students, and/or postdoctoral research associates. Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: A Ph.D. in areas such as forestry/natural resources, ecology, ecohydrology, remote sensing, atmospheric sciences/meteorology, biogeosciences, environmental science, geography, or a related field is required. Applicants should be enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated. Ideal candidates should have one or more of the following experiences: satellite remote sensing, processing of large data sets, machine learning, scientific computing and programming, and synthesis of in-situ observations. Strong communication, writing, and programming skills and publication record as well as multiple years of experience in postdoctoral research are highly desirable.
