About The Position

This position supports CDPH's mission and strategic plan by planning, directing, coordinating, and conducting statewide surveillance of sexually transmitted infections. The Research Scientist Supervisor (RSS) II [Epidemiology/Biostatistics (Epi/Bio)] serves as the Chief of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, Assessment and Evaluation Section (SEAE), a highly visible program of key importance in planning, directing, coordinating, and conducting statewide surveillance epidemiology, and informatics of sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections in California. The RSS II directs staff and surveillance/epidemiologic/informatics activities to assist the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch (STDCB), the Division of Communicable Disease Control (DCDC), and CDPH in meeting general program goals and contributing to developing public health policies and recommendations to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of STDCB prevention activities in California. The RSS II (Epi/Bio) leads a team that is responsible for informatics processing, epidemiologic analysis, and interpretation of STI, mpox, Hepatitis C (HCV) and other syndemic disease surveillance data. The RSS II (Epi/Bio) uses professional training, experience, and judgement to plan, coordinate, and conduct independent and collaborative surveillance and epidemiological analyses related to STI (including mpox) and HCV that are of public health significance. The outcome and interpretation of these studies guides and supports other STDCB sections, local health jurisdictions (LHJs), and external partners to ensure that surveillance and epidemiological data from the STDCB are used effectively to prevent STI, HCV, and mpox in California.
