About The Position

The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL), Pasadena provides DTSC with expertise in method development, quality assurance, data evaluation and analysis of environmental samples. ECL also studies new chemicals of concern and provides DTSC management with analytical information for decision making. Join us today! As a Research Scientist Supervisor I you will have the opportunity to: Organize, supervise and direct multi-disciplinary scientific staff to carry out the operations of the lab such as analytical testing, method development, maintenance of equipment and supplies and other research projects in support of DTSC core programs and external stakeholders Review and approve staff's analytical reports to ensure data quality objectives are met Manage laboratory infrastructure, including, but not limited to quality assurance, laboratory information management system (SLIMS), data review and interpretation, procurement of instruments and equipment, expenditure tracking, and technology innovations to ensure lab meets the quality, productivity and efficiency to full fill the current and future needs of the department and stakeholders Independently plan, design and manage specific research studies and surveys of chemicals of interest in environmental samples or consumer products using the most current and/or emerging laboratory-based techniques to develop method and/or guidelines for the department and the public Direct the preparation and submission of environmental research grant proposals to the federal government and elsewhere as an alternative source of funding for resources

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of research experience working independently on projects preferred
  • 3 years of experience with mass spectrometry and other analytical chemistry techniques preferred
  • 1 year experience working under a Laboratory Quality Management System preferred
  • 1 year experience with program management preferred
  • 1 year experience managing and/or supervising staff preferred

Responsibilities

  • Organize, supervise and direct multi-disciplinary scientific staff to carry out the operations of the lab such as analytical testing, method development, maintenance of equipment and supplies and other research projects in support of DTSC core programs and external stakeholders
