About The Position

The Research Scientist, Laboratory Research Program Manager at the Feng Lab, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, is responsible for managing the research projects of a neuroscience research laboratory engaged in studies of neurobiological mechanisms of synapse and circuit development and their dysfunction in brain disorders. This role involves overseeing project progress towards grant milestones, collaborating with researchers to develop research progress reports for various audiences, and working closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on preparing and submitting grants and proposals. The position also includes managing project and laboratory budgets, ensuring compliance with resource allocation requirements, and participating in the lab's research activities to enhance operations and troubleshoot issues. Additionally, the manager will serve as a liaison to the PI on personnel matters, train lab members, oversee laboratory facilities, and coordinate collaborations and events.

Requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience or related scientific field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in a large research laboratory.
  • Strong neuroscience knowledge and technical skills.
  • Experience with grant proposal development and submission.
  • Experienced in developing and submitting grant progress reports.
  • Experienced in grant budget management.
  • Experience in database management.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team of graduate students, postdocs, and research staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage research project progress towards grant milestones.
  • Work with researchers to develop research progress reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with the PI on preparing and submitting grants and proposals.
  • Manage project and laboratory budgets, ensuring compliance with resource allocation requirements.
  • Participate in and/or oversee the lab's research activities, including developing new systems/processes to improve operations.
  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions to problems.
  • Serve as liaison to the PI on all personnel matters, including hiring, onboarding, and reappointing lab personnel.
  • Train lab members on general lab operations, equipment, protocols, and safety conduct.
  • Oversee research laboratory facility, including researching, procuring, and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts.
  • Coordinate external/internal collaborations, meetings, and events.
  • Manage/oversee lab website, software/licenses, data storage, workstations, and calendar.
