The Research Scientist position at the Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) within the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a full-time role focused on generating quantitative evidence to inform decisions aimed at reducing the malaria burden and accelerating eradication efforts. The IDM is an embedded research institute within the Foundation's Global Health Division, utilizing computational modeling and data analysis to support policymakers in global health. The team collaborates with a diverse ecosystem of partners, including universities, NGOs, government ministries, and public health institutions, to shape global efforts to eradicate infectious diseases and improve health outcomes for those in need. As a member of the IDM Malaria Team, the Research Scientist will engage in a variety of projects that encompass epidemiological research, product evaluation, operational support, and global strategy. The role requires a deep understanding of malaria transmission models and the ability to assess the current burden of disease in various settings. The Research Scientist will also explore the strengths and weaknesses of existing strategies to combat malaria and investigate how new technologies and concepts can be leveraged in the fight against the disease. This position involves developing new methodological approaches and engaging with stakeholders at all levels, from students to global policymakers, to support the malaria analytic ecosystem. The successful candidate will collaborate on the development, refinement, and application of malaria transmission models, applying both traditional and bespoke analytics to understand complex data. They will also be responsible for creating visualizations that effectively communicate the results of their analyses and support a network of collaborators across research, academia, policy, implementation, and funding sectors. Continuous learning about malaria epidemiology, operations, and policy is essential for contextual understanding of the questions addressed by the team.
