About The Position

A 50% research scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shuo Chen. The Chen Lab studies the circuit and molecular mechanisms of learning and memory in healthy and disease brains. The lab also develops novel technologies to record and manipulate neuronal activities. The successful candidate will lead projects integrating in vivo electrophysiology, in vitro electrophysiology, calcium imaging, animal behavior, omics, and computational modeling to dissect how circuit- and molecular-level processes give rise to complex behaviors and memory functions. Additional opportunities exist to develop next-generation technologies for minimally invasive deep brain simulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year experience.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computational neuroscience, or related field
  • Strong skills in neurophysiology and systems neuroscience
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment

Responsibilities

  • The employee will help design and conduct in vivo/in vitro electrophysiology and imaging experiments in animal models to probe circuit-level neural mechanisms with a focus on the hippocampus.
  • He/she will also analyze behavioral and electrophysiological data for manuscript preparation.
