About The Position

The Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant (RSA) at the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design (IPD) will play a crucial role in the development of novel minibinder drug conjugate therapeutics. This position involves hands-on molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, collaborating with scientists and utilizing core laboratory resources to design and characterize new protein therapeutics. The RSA will engage in various laboratory tasks, contributing to cutting-edge research in synthetic proteins aimed at addressing significant challenges in medicine, energy, and technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Cell Biology, or related field and less than one year of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Previous hands-on experience or general familiarity with basic laboratory techniques, molecular biology, and protein characterization.
• General knowledge of biophysical techniques and biochemistry.

Nice To Haves

• Previous lab-based experience with biophysical methods for protein characterization.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine molecular biology tasks, including vector amplification, Golden Gate Assembly, and transformation in E. coli.
• Perform expression and purification of designed proteins at laboratory scale (1 mL to 1 L) using techniques such as immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC), size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), and dialysis.
• Assist in protein characterization using SDS-PAGE, Octet/BLI, SPR, and other analytical tools with comprehensive training provided.
• Screen design libraries for binding by yeast surface display.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and provide feedback on processes to support continuous development and improvement.
