GE Aerospace is pioneering the use of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) in commercial and military aerospace applications. As a Research Scientist within the Composites organization at the GE Aerospace Research Center, you will play a key role in advancing these materials and processes for cutting-edge GE Aerospace products. Your work will focus on developing fiber-reinforced CMCs engineered to excel in extreme environments, shaping the future of aerospace technology.

  • Conduct fundamental and applied research to advance processes and technologies for ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) relevant to GE Aerospace and external funding agencies.
  • Develop innovative CMCs systems tailored to a wide range of GE Aerospace products, including commercial and military applications.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for both new and existing CMCs in a laboratory setting.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging technology trends in advanced CMCs to drive innovation.
  • Collaborate with GE Aerospace's internal product teams, global R D sites, and external material developers to accelerate advancements in CMC technology.
  • Investigate material degradation mechanisms and develop strategies to enhance the durability and performance of CMCs in extreme environments.
  • Prepare and submit research proposals for external funding.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through invention disclosures and patents.
  • Communicate research findings effectively through presentations, technical reports, and publications.
  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline OR a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of three years of experience in a materials R D environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fiber-reinforced CMC development, processing and property-process-microstructure relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of processing techniques for advanced structural ceramics.
  • Experience in the development and testing of fiber-reinforced CMCs or other advanced ceramic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new areas of research.
  • Willing to work on government funded programs.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Experience in material and process development for fiber-reinforced CMCs, additive ceramics, or other advanced ceramic systems with complex microstructure requirements across multiple length scales.
  • Experience in mechanical testing and behavior of CMCs.
  • Experience working on government contracts, including preparing and submitting proposals.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control.
  • Experience in a non-academic research environment, with a focus on applied innovation.
  • Passion for hands-on development and laboratory work, with a commitment to advancing materials technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle complex technical problems and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Track record of excellence in Research, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Healthcare benefits include medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage; access to a Health Coach, a 24/7 nurse-based resource; and access to the Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services.
  • Retirement benefits include the GE Retirement Savings Plan, a tax-advantaged 401(k) savings opportunity with company matching contributions and company retirement contributions, as well as access to Fidelity resources and planning consultants.
  • Other benefits include tuition assistance, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, disability insurance, life insurance, and paid time-off for vacation or illness.
