About The Position

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Research Scientist position. Primary responsibilities will include: Developing next generation wildfire spread models with emphasis on soil and ecohydrological impacts; Coordinating research with partners and faculty in the realm of wildfire-landscape modeling and technology; Co liaising with the CliMA team at Caltech for development of a new wildfire module; Generation of reports and scientific publications; Engagement with students and postdocs and provision of technical support within the UNR Wildfire Hub and beyond; Making presentations in scientific conferences and part of the broader Wildfire Hub activities; Development of proposals and providing administrative support to Wildfire Hub administrators

Requirements

  • PhD in Engineering, Physics, Ecology and Forestry, Earth Science, Computational Science, or related fields with post-doctoral research experience (or equivalent)
  • Research experience in wildfire engineering, fire science, landscape modeling, or related topics.
  • Experience in working with big data.
  • Excellent English-language communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research, publish results in peer-reviewed literature, grant applications.
