About The Position

The Research Scientist in the Clinical Sciences within the Division of Rheumatology will collaborate with Dr. Jeffrey Sparks and the Sparks team to manage and oversee multiple research projects, including NIH-sponsored trials and grants. This role involves project administration, protocol implementation, staff training, and coordination of study-related activities, contributing to the advancement of clinical research in rheumatology.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in an analytic field such as biostatistics, informatics, or epidemiology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least two years of work experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in Excel, Access, and SAS.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Experience working with Epic is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage multiple research projects, including NIH-sponsored trials and grants.
  • Coordinate and carry out study-related activities such as designing data collection instruments and programming study databases.
  • Organize and maintain meetings/agendas, and assist with hiring and training of new staff.
  • Create, manage, and maintain internal review board protocols.
  • Provide insight on project development and strategy.
  • Supervise, orient, train, and coach staff, including research assistants and students.
  • Evaluate staff and assist with annual reviews.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for research studies and IRB protocols.
  • Contribute to writing progress reports and regulatory reports for IRB approval.
  • Assist in manuscript writing by providing study details and current references.
  • Independently research literature and follow up on specific requests from research staff.
  • Develop methods and design studies, including recruitment strategies and data collection protocols.
  • Make independent judgments regarding the suitability of potential participants.
  • Conduct surveys and participate in focus group discussions with patients.
  • Draft and implement questionnaires, surveys, and other research instruments.
  • Communicate regularly with PIs and research team about all aspects of research projects.
