About The Position

This position works under the general supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider, and/or nursing leadership to provide nursing care in medical facility, clinic, or laboratory setting involving medical research efforts with inpatients and outpatients. Responsible for all regulatory aspects of research studies, coordination of study procedures and patient enrollment and participation in research studies. The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Research Nurse to recruit patients, obtain informed consent, assist with regulatory documentation and perform clinical research projects within the ICU at Children's Medical Center Dallas. An ideal candidate would have experience/familiarity with the environment within a critical care setting while also having experience in facilitating study development and implementation, assisting with patient recruitment, knowledge regarding regulatory requirements and supervisory skills to assist with a larger research team. The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Nurse to recruit patients, obtain informed consents, and monitor/evaluate patients involved in research studies. Applicant will work closely with the Pl and ensure research studies are ready to be conducted in the PICU.

Requirements

  • Graduate of NLN (National League for Nursing) approved Nursing program, licensure as Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas
  • 2 years of clinical nursing experience
  • May substitute relevant clinical research experience for clinical nursing experience on one-on-one basis.
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical research nursing experience is highly desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly interacting with bedside nurses who are caring for patients
  • Assists in resolving problems relating to research activities and patient care and acts as a liaison between the research team and other institutional stakeholders.
  • Reports adverse events through appropriate sources per the policy of the protocol and the University Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations.
  • Interpreting nursing assessments and performing data collection for clinical research studies.
  • May train other research nurses in specialized skills and knowledge necessary to perform variety of basic and complex research data collection and nursing care; may provide in-service education to staff members as appropriate.
  • Monitors and evaluates patients involved in research studies within scope of practice, including their response to therapy or intervention.
  • Communicating to investigators on condition of study participants including possible side effects and assist in resolving problems related to patient care.
  • Recruits potential subjects for research studies ensuring subject eligibility, screens patients, tracks patients' data and explains the study purpose and content of each study.
