About The Position
The Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT) within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Grainger College of Engineering is seeking a Research Projects Manager to oversee the progress and performance of various projects funded by the Intergovernmental Grant Agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). This role is crucial in ensuring that the projects align with the objectives set forth in the grant agreement, and it involves analyzing any problems or shortcomings that may arise during the project lifecycle and recommending effective solutions. The ICT is strategically located on the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, which is also the future site of the Illinois Autonomous and Connected Track (I-ACT). This initiative is part of ICT's broader Smart Transportation Infrastructure Initiative (STII), which aims to lead advancements in smart mobility. The Research Projects Manager will play a pivotal role in managing over 50 active research projects, ensuring compliance with research objectives, and acting as a liaison between various stakeholders, including IDOT Technical Advisory Groups and Technical Review Panels. In this position, the manager will lead a team responsible for maintaining program excellence, meeting operational goals, and fulfilling all requirements of the ICT grant agreement. The role also involves financial administration, including budget analyses and monitoring of project expenditures. The manager will report on program progress to IDOT and the Director of ICT, develop proposals based on TAG recommendations, and assist in preparing various reports and presentations. Additionally, the manager will implement project management software to ensure accurate project data and financial reporting, and will handle sensitive assignments as needed. Travel within the State of Illinois may be required to fulfill the duties of this position.
