About The Position

This position is for a Research Project Coordinator who understands issues and experiences specific to American Indian public health education, research, and health care workforce, specifically on Navajo Nation. This person will work with the Navajo Department of Health to assess program needs and coordinate Public Health Internships for current public health students and recent public health graduates at the undergraduate to post-graduate levels. This person will serve as a primary point of contact for the Navajo Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) partnership student internship activities. In addition, this person will collaborate with the Dine College Institutional Review Board (DC IRB) and the Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board (NNHRRB) to assess practices and protocols for efficient data storage and access given the unique needs of a Tribal institution. This individual will communicate directly with Dine College project staff, Northern Arizona University project staff, and Navajo Nation Department of Health staff.

Requirements

  • Bachor's degree in Public Health or related discipline, AND 2-4 years relevant research experience.
  • Understands issues specific to American Indian health, research, and programs.
  • Intermediate knowledge about and relationships with Navajo Nation health and public health programs.
  • Communicates effectively with various audiences, including students, staff, and public health professionals.
  • Effectively organizes data and information.
  • Ability to engage cultural humility in communication.
  • Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) or related discipline.
  • Previous experience of working Dine College.
  • Previous Experience with communicating and collaborating with Navajo-based agencies.
  • Ability to speak Navajo preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate day-to-day activities of student internship projects.
  • Assist with providing administrative support to senior project staff.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with project partners and interns.
  • Work directly with Dine College staff on recruitment student interns.
  • Support evaluation activities, data collection (internship tracking, surveys), and progress updates.
  • Draft & manage communications between the NARCH project and the DC IRB & NNHRRB.
  • Organize meetings to advance the goals of the Research Infrastructure Enhancement Project (a component of the Navajo NARCH).
  • Develop program reports.
  • Overnight travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
