About The Position

The Research Program Manager oversees and coordinates all research activities within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. This position is responsible for managing the department’s research portfolio, supporting faculty investigators, and ensuring regulatory, compliance, and reporting requirements are met. The Research Program Manager serves as a scientific and operational leader for clinical, translational, and outcomes research. The role includes project development, data management, biostatistical analysis, grant and manuscript support, and expansion of clinical trials within the department. The position works closely with faculty, research fellows, residents, medical students, and a research coordinator to promote a productive and collaborative research environment, maintain efficient workflows, and support the department’s publication and academic output, including strong UAMS representation at major Otolaryngology conferences.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field, plus a minimum of one (1) year of experience in research coordination, academic research management, or clinical research.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred; experience in Otolaryngology/ENT is a plus.
  • No substitutions will be accepted for the PhD requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC), Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), or related certification in clinical research or research administration, or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage all departmental research activities, including clinical, translational, outcomes, and health services research.
  • Support the development of new research projects aligned with departmental priorities.
  • Expand and manage clinical trials in collaboration with faculty and institutional partners.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, IRB, and institutional requirements for human subjects research.
  • Partner with faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students to support study design, protocol development, data collection and management, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Assist with abstract and manuscript development and submissions for regional and national conferences.
  • Connect residents and medical students to appropriate research opportunities based on interests, training needs, and supervision requirements.
  • Oversee departmental REDCap databases and other research data systems.
  • Perform biostatistical analyses and guide analysis planning for departmental projects and clinical trials.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and documentation to support audits, publications, and future research use.
  • Track departmental publications, presentations, active projects, and research productivity metrics.
  • Maintain internal research dashboards and reporting tools for departmental leadership.
  • Support all phases of abstract and manuscript development, from drafting through submission and revision.
  • Monitor conference and publication timelines to ensure departmental representation at major professional meetings.
  • Prepare and manage regulatory submissions including IRB applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and conflict of interest reporting.
  • Serve as liaison with the IRB, sponsors, and collaborating departments.
  • Support grant development and submission, including budgets, justifications, progress reports, and compliance tracking.
  • Monitor research-related budgets and expenditures, including publication and clinical trial costs.
  • Support research onboarding and education for fellows, residents, medical students, and rotating learners.
  • Develop research training materials and educational sessions as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by departmental leadership.
