About The Position

The Department of Neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Program Assistant – to support a human neuroscience research laboratory focused on Parkinson’s disease. The laboratory conducts cutting-edge clinical research aimed at identifying novel neuroimaging biomarkers and understanding neural mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease using advanced methodologies, including MRI, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator or designated senior research staff, the Research Program Assistant – plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of multiple research studies. This position provides comprehensive support across the research lifecycle, including participant recruitment, data collection, regulatory compliance, data management, and preliminary analysis.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and four years of relevant program experience.
  • A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or related field.
  • Prior experience in human-subjects research.
  • Familiarity with REDCap, Excel, SPSS, or R.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in neuroscience research and learning new techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen, consent, and schedule research participants in accordance with approved study protocols.
  • Assist with MRI, fMRI, and TMS data acquisition under supervision.
  • Administer standardized cognitive tests, clinical assessments, and questionnaires.
  • Perform accurate data entry and maintain research databases.
  • Conduct preliminary data processing and analysis.
  • Maintain study documentation in compliance with IRB and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of research materials, presentations, grants, and manuscripts.
  • Provide administrative and technical support including inventory management and meeting coordination.
