Pharmacy technicians play essential roles in our Department and health system, including medication inventory and distribution, assisting in the preparation of compounded sterile products and non-sterile products, maintaining required records and documentation, and other important duties vital for the provision of patient care. The goal of the Research Pharmacy (RP) in the Department of Pharmacy Services at Michigan Medicine is to ensure that investigational drug studies and other drug-related research at the Hospitals and Clinics are conducted safely and efficiently. In doing so, the RP assists investigators in complying with the requirements of the FDA, study sponsors, Michigan State Board of Pharmacy Regulations, The Joint Commission standards and requirements, and hospital and pharmacy policies. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will demonstrate proficiency and skill with pharmacy and health system information systems, accurately interpret prescriptions and information on medication labels and containers, and participate in the documentation of patient care activities within the health record. You will also prepare, compound, and label sterile and non-sterile medications for dispensing, stock and maintain pharmacy inventory, and maintain, dispense, and store all controlled substances and associated records as required. Your role will also involve preparing and delivering investigational drugs per research protocols, assisting with the use of automated dispensing machines, and participating in audits and inspections that support regulatory and compliance standards. Effective communication with other pharmacy team members, healthcare professionals, patients, and families is essential to ensure service excellence and resolve routine medication-related issues.
