About The Position

The Research Operations Manager (ROM) at the Research Aviation Facility (RAF) plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective utilization of NCAR aviation resources to meet the scientific and engineering needs of the scientific community. This position is integral to sustaining a program of scientific research at the RAF, which is a national resource dedicated to advancing airborne measurement capabilities. The ROM collaborates closely with the Aviation Operations Manager to facilitate airborne field deployments and instrumentation developments, while also managing and supporting RAF employees. The RAF, part of NSF NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL), has been serving the NSF geosciences community since 1964, providing unique airborne research platforms and a comprehensive suite of instrumentation maintained by skilled scientists and technicians. The facility offers a range of services, including data management, field project logistic support, and assistance with the certification and integration of user-supplied instruments, ensuring thorough support for field deployments and subsequent data analysis. Research and development efforts at the RAF are focused on addressing the future scientific needs of the community, aligning with the strategic priorities of EOL and NCAR. The Earth Observing Laboratory, one of seven NCAR laboratories, provides state-of-the-art atmospheric observing systems, leadership, and scientific expertise to enable the university-based research community to advance climate, weather, and related Earth system science. EOL manages most of the NSF Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities and deploys them to support observational field campaigns for researchers from universities, government agencies, and NCAR, as well as in support of education. Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, NCAR is dedicated to research, education, and service in atmospheric and related Earth system sciences, with a mission to understand the behavior of the atmosphere and related Earth and geospace systems, while fostering the transfer of knowledge and technology for the betterment of life on Earth.
