The Research Operations Manager will lead efforts to expand and support the institution's research initiatives by developing and implementing operating plans and processes. This role is crucial in collaborating with senior leadership to devise strategies that enhance the visibility and impact of the institution's research activities. The manager will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and high-quality service, thereby contributing to the overall mission of the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). The position requires a proactive approach to managing a team of Research Operations staff responsible for departmental administration processes. In this role, the manager will develop organizational staffing plans for direct reports, ensuring that employees with the appropriate experience and skills are hired, onboarded, trained, supervised, and evaluated. The manager will also be responsible for implementing appropriate employee discipline when necessary. Collaboration with the Director and grants administration is essential to ensure that spending is within budget, and the manager will develop, implement, and manage efficient administrative processes and resources to ensure operational effectiveness and quality outcomes. Additionally, the Research Operations Manager will partner with other department managers to develop a SharePoint site for centralized document management, facilitating streamlined collaboration and easy access to resources. Acting as the main point of contact and administrative liaison for Principal Investigators or Research Managers regarding HR-related transactions is a key responsibility, as is assisting leadership with the planning and implementation of research projects. The manager will ensure that policies, procedures, and employee actions are performed in accordance with KUMC Policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
