About The Position

The Center for Gerontology & Healthcare Research (CGHCR), located in Brown School of Public Health is focused on the diverse health and social service needs of older adults and other persons with chronic illnesses. Research findings published by our faculty inform healthcare delivery and policy for these vulnerable populations, with particular emphasis on those residing in post-acute and long-term care settings. The center is also engaged in the training and mentoring of students, post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and collaborates across campus and with external peers. The Research Operations Manager will bring a strategic and coordinated approach to all aspects of the Center’s work. The Research Operations Director will be responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of research activities across CGHCR core services. The Director reports to the Director of the Center and will oversee or manage day-to-day operations such as budgeting, research support activities, meeting & event planning, Center visibility, student engagement, team building, Center initiatives, and strategic planning. The position provides onboarding, training, support and supervision for research staff including biostatistical programmers, and will assist in connecting students and trainees to research opportunities. The role includes responsibility for organizational staffing oversight, ensuring that hiring, onboarding, and team development support research excellence and efficiency. Success in this position requires the managerial skills to assure the optimal and efficient operation of the Center’s research portfolio, while also having the vision to contribute to strategic planning for future growth. The position is expected to make lasting contributions that advance the Center’s mission and its scientific endeavors. This is a hybrid eligible position. All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification that are satisfactory to Brown University. This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 02/29/2028 which may be extended based upon available funding.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher with 4-5 years of experience consistent with the outlined major responsibilities
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of required education and experience
  • Demonstrated success in personnel and fiscal management, including the ability to manage a budget and to hire, supervise, and retain outstanding talent
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring non-research aspects of projects
  • Prior experience in research program management and leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational, analytic, and negotiation skills
  • Proven leadership skills (capable of galvanizing groups to action)
  • Effective as a change agent, with the ability to think strategically, to turn new ideas and approaches into executable programs,and lead staff through changes in organization, processes, procedures, and technologies
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and academic backgrounds
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusivity within research operations teams

Responsibilities
