About The Position

The Research Nurse position at MD Anderson Cancer Center focuses on providing clinical evaluation, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of patients enrolled in research protocols. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • One year of registered nursing experience.
  • Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Research Nurse experience.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities related to initiation and conduct of clinical trials.
  • Work with staff in Patient Business Services to develop research charge tickets for protocols.
  • Interact with clinic staff to ensure appropriate use of research charge tickets and accurate billing.
  • Screen patients for protocol eligibility through personal interviews and/or medical record review.
  • Instruct co-workers in procedures for recording patient information and maintain data for audits.
  • Participate in protocol-specific clinical tasks, providing nursing assessment and managing toxicities or adverse events.
  • Identify and provide patient and family education regarding treatment management and follow-up in clinical trials.
  • Administer investigational medications and order protocol-related tests as necessary.
  • Assist the primary investigator in data collection and evaluation, entering protocol-related data into databases or case report forms.
  • Evaluate treatment responses and report toxicities and adverse drug reactions to the principal investigator and study sponsor.
  • Provide education to professional and ancillary staff concerning protocols and act as a liaison with sponsor institutions and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external referring physicians regarding protocol eligibility and availability.
  • Maintain professional expertise through educational programs and attend relevant meetings and conferences.
