The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) seeks a Research Laboratory Technician IV to join an innovative research program developing advanced organ-on-a-chip technologies for modeling chemical exposure effects and evaluating therapeutic countermeasures. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that could transform preclinical testing and accelerate medical countermeasure development. Five years of specific experience with human and animal primary cell culture strongly preferred. Background in cell biology, bioengineering, tissue engineering, or related fields required. Experience with biomaterials, transcriptomics/proteomics, or microfluidic systems is desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent documentation practices, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic research team. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will: Execute complex experimental protocols involving organ-on-a-chip (OTE) model development for both airway and skin tissue systems Perform advanced cell culture techniques with multiple cell types including epithelial, stromal, and endothelial cells from both human and animal sources Conduct multi-parameter analyses including functional assays, mechanical testing, and multi-omics characterization Participate in experimental design and optimization for tissue engineering applications Provide technical guidance to other laboratory personnel The ideal candidate will have experience in: Cell culture and tissue engineering techniques Biochemical and functional assay execution Biomaterials characterization Data collection and analysis for complex biological systems This position offers unique opportunities to: Work with state-of-the-art organ-on-chip technology Contribute to the development of alternative testing methods that may reduce animal testing Participate in research that directly impacts medical countermeasure development Gain experience with cutting-edge multi-omics approaches and machine learning applications Join a collaborative research environment at a leading regenerative medicine institute
