About The Position

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) seeks a Research Laboratory Technician III to support an innovative program developing advanced tissue models for evaluating chemical exposures and therapeutic interventions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that bridges tissue engineering and public health protection. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will perform cell culture operations with multiple cell types from both human and animal sources, execute established protocols for 3D tissue model fabrication and testing, conduct standardized biological and functional assays, assist in biomaterial preparation and characterization, support tissue processing and analysis procedures, maintain detailed experimental records and organize project data, and work collaboratively with commercial partners and clinical collaborators.

Requirements

  • University graduation with a major in the biological and/or physical sciences and four years of related clinical/research experience
  • Master's degree in biology or related physical science
  • Experience in basic cell culture techniques
  • Experience in laboratory documentation practices
  • Aseptic technique and sterile procedures
  • Basic data collection and analysis
  • Ability to follow established protocols accurately

Responsibilities

  • Perform cell culture operations with multiple cell types from both human and animal sources
  • Execute established protocols for 3D tissue model fabrication and testing
  • Conduct standardized biological and functional assays
  • Assist in biomaterial preparation and characterization
  • Support tissue processing and analysis procedures
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and organize project data
  • Work collaboratively with commercial partners and clinical collaborators
  • Confer with principal investigator and assist in the development of plans for research experiments and data collection procedures
  • Modify existing laboratory procedures and protocols to meet the needs of research projects as required
  • Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments
  • Discuss the interpretation of results with principal investigator
  • Review scientific journals, abstracts and other related literature for information concerning experimental procedures
  • Conduct complex chemical, physical, engineering and biological tests on experimental materials
  • Analyze experimental materials, tissues, secretions, and excretions for clinical manufacturing compatibility
  • Supervise, train, and review the work of students and lower level technicians engaged in clinical/research laboratory work
  • Design, test and manufacture of microfluidic chip systems, supporting structures and specimen collection devices and assays
  • Operate complex specialized laboratory instruments
  • Instruct other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments
  • Requisition and maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
