The Walker and Pillai laboratories at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard are seeking to hire a full-time research technician into research position I or II. The candidate will assist in research to better understand interactions between B and T cells in autoimmune diseases and chronic infections, specifically HIV-infection, with the goal of deciphering the mechanisms regulating germinal center versus extrafollicular reactions, B cell memory and CD8 T cell function in the germinal center milieu. This position is ideal for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research or medicine and are looking to gain one-to-two years of meaningful research experience while working in a supportive, highly collaborative and stimulating research environment with state-of-the-art facilities. The Ragon Institute is an internationally renowned immunology-focused research center located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This position will involve both cellular and molecular laboratory bench work including but not limited to the following: Maintaining mice colonies, genotyping and processing mice samples Antibody cloning, maintenance of cell lines Multi-parameter flow cytometry Processing and maintenance of patient-derived cells and tissues Work in both BSL1 and BSL2+ environments Attend and participate in weekly lab meetings and scientific discussions Participate in reviewing journals and discussion. Job Summary Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
  • Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.
  • Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
  • Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
  • Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.
