Dr. Shlee Song invites you to consider this great opportunity to join her dynamic team! Overview of Department & Mentor The research of Shlee S. Song, MD, focuses on acute stroke therapies and neuroimaging. Acute stroke treatment has evolved greatly over the past few years. Our stroke program conducts multiple research trials testing acute stroke treatments, stroke prevention, and stroke recovery. Role Summary & Objectives This internship will provide and introduction to clinical research. The intern will be taught the importance of human subject’s protection, HIPAA, research compliance, IRB review, data entry, and detailed records and logs. Role Activities & Timeline Role Activities and curriculum (skills to be learned) over the course of 1 year: This internship will provide experience with clinical research trial set up, data review, data abstraction, data entry, and overall clinical research study workflow experience. They will learn about acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, other neurological disorders, stroke prevention, and different treatments. They will also learn about the importance of human subject protection, HIPAA, and research compliance. Month 1-2: Completion of citiprogram courses, GCP, HIPAA, research compliance, and review of research protocols and overview of stroke research program. Month 3-4: Research study specific training, data abstraction, and data entry training. Month 5-12: Continue assisting with data entry and data abstraction projects, attend study meetings, assist with patient visits and help with research workflow, and literature reviews.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a HS Diploma or GED
  • Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern or visitor appointment
  • INTERNS: Those participating for academic credit must receive academic credit for the duration of the internship
  • VISITORS: Must be receiving funding from an eligible sponsoring institution (employer, educator, funder, etc.)
