The Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is dedicated to advancing patient care, biomedical research, and medical education. The Department is responsible for the treatment and management of a wide range of biomedical disorders, while also leading innovative research to develop new preventive and therapeutic strategies. The intern will be mentored and directly supervised by faculty in the Department of Medicine, with active engagement in translational research efforts aimed at improving disease outcomes. Role Summary & Objectives This internship offers a unique opportunity to participate in the design and development of novel treatments for cancer based on the understanding of molecular targets responsible for disease pathogenesis. The intern will gain hands-on experience in molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, and experimental therapeutics through collaboration with an interdisciplinary research team. Role Activities & Timeline The internship will follow a structured progression over an 18- to 24-month period: Months 1–6: Learn about ongoing research in the group, with emphasis on molecular targets and drug development for cancer treatment. Months 6–12: Collaborate with chemists and molecular biologists to design and synthesize potential therapeutic agents. Months 12–18: Test newly developed agents using experimental models of cancer. Months 18–24: Analyze data, interpret results, and contribute to research reports or manuscripts. Learning Outcomes Gain a foundational understanding of molecular target identification and validation. Acquire practical skills in compound design, synthesis, and biological testing. Develop experience in cancer drug discovery and translational research. Build collaboration and communication skills through interdisciplinary teamwork.
