Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. Medical imaging instruments such as MRI scanners are complex dynamic systems whose non-ideal electrical and physical behavior significantly impacts image quality. This Research Internship focuses on developing models of MRI system behavior through calibration experiments, physical modeling, and data‑driven methods, with the goal of improving system characterization and control. These models will be used to improve data acquisition strategies and image reconstruction pipelines by combining MRI physics, signal processing, and machine learning. Research Interns will work at the intersection of system modeling, calibration, and AI-driven reconstruction, contributing to next-generation imaging pipelines. We are seeking Research Interns with backgrounds in MRI physics, signal processing, applied mathematics, or scientific machine learning who are interested in understanding and improving medical imaging instruments from the ground up. Microsoft Health Futures is an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and medical doctors focused on developing next generation methods and tools for health and healthcare. We offer a unique vibrant environment that features cutting-edge academic research, enterprise software development, and real-world delivery, with close feedback loops and rapid iterations among all three, much like a lean startup. Note that letters of recommendation are not required for this position.
